Memory Tapes: Today is Our Life

Back in 2009 one man band Memory Tapes released easily my favorite album of that year entitled 'Seek Magic'. Now classified in the sub genre of Chill Wave, Dayve Hawk's blend of lush guitar driven jams, dreamy vocals and funky beats earned him a special place in my heart. Strangely enough in 2009-i was planning to create a promo video for his song Plain Material, as my university had been approached by his record label to produce abstract visuals to match the blooming, heavenly sounds of the tapes. Sadly my ambition was too high and scared everyone away, they were right to i guess-considering i wanted to have the protagonist of the promo pick up a sharp pin and use it to deflate a pollution pumping power station like a balloon. Pushing aside that ridiculous idea which also included stereotypical, archetype people in our society-including hoodies unsettle the main character before they are then shocked when they broke out in dance because of the song (pretentious trash i think we would all agree).

Anyways I'm super excited to here that a follow up album to his classic debut is on its way, to celebrate here is the first track released from it called Today Is Our Life- which sounds like he is continuing to develop the sound he lushly created on Seek Magic. The video also has very interesting archive sourced dance numbers from a director i'm familiar with-who specialized in this kind of elaborate numbers but i cannot remember his name, anyways enjoy this jam of tha day.
