2 Live Crew: So Horny

Strangely enough looking back at this totally idiotic but funky as hell hiphop classic track made me realize: Me So Horny presents men in a really bad light! Not just because of the misogynistic lyrics which i would argue are almost so graphic they could be intentionally done to parody. Both versions of the music videos present all  the guys as dogs. What interests me about the track on an academic level is the power relationship between woman and men. The woman are doing the usual groupie pornographic booty shaking and parading in front of the camera-yet they hardly express any sexual desire to the audience or male rap stars. It almost like they see how these guys are reacting, throwing dollar bills and curving for their pussycats that they act almost depressed & emotionless.

Take for example the white girl who lip synches the iconic sample from Full Metal Jacket, if this was say something like Lethal Bizzle's promo of The Best-which used real digital television call girls only set out to sexually arose the male audience. I think regardless of where your sexual politics lie with this track that the director of this piece either intentionally undermined the rap group or 2 Live Crew oversaw the imagery to present an detached, female empowering video which whilst using sexist misogynistic imagery subverted the rap genre promo by presenting the protagonists as douchebags and not role models!

Lemme know what you think?
