Jam Of Tha Day: Tuesday 7th June 2011

Isaac Hayes - Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic

Today's selection date's back to 1969! The second album by Isaac Hayes was a radical shift from the acclaimed producer, session musician & songwriter. Whilst his first album flopped & lacked his personal touch-Hot Buttered Soul truly established what Hayes was all about and revolutionized soul music forever. The album use of extended grooves clocking in near 20 minutes was unheard of on it's release-the combination of psychedelic fuzz guitar, Motown influenced deliciously helpings of soulful vocalism truly creates an unforgettable eargasm! Although the album offers two astonishing covers Walk on By & By The Time I Get To Phoenix-it's Hayes mammoth composition of true, unadulterated funk which goes by the name of: Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic that I've chosen for today. The astounding ten minute jam has influenced not only nearly every blaxploitation soundtrack, but has inspired a variety of hip-hop beats for over four decades. On first listen you maybe get so caught up in the groove that your head might fall off because of excess head nodding.

Dig it!
